It seems one result of weeks of aggressive protesters hounding Senators in the halls of Congress is that the Senators have become pretty adept at responding to bad faith comments like this one.
Tuesday of this week, Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana was confronted by a pair of protesters, one of whom demanded an apology. This protester wasn’t content to ask for an apology for herself, instead, she demanded one for her children who were sitting quietly in a stroller.
“Senator Cassidy, can you please apologize to my children for ruining their futures,” the woman protester said. She doesn’t say what he’s supposed to be apologizing for but I guess that’s to be assumed at this point.
Cassidy, without missing a beat, turned to the kids and replied, “Hey, guess what. If in the future somebody makes—I know your parents are using you as tools…”
“No, we’re not using them as tools,” the protester responded seconds after demanding the Senator apologize to her children.
Cassidy continued, “In the future, if somebody makes an allegation against you and there’s no proof for it, you will be okay.”
With that Cassidy walked away while the protesters began trailing him shouting about “a full due process.” Another protester, a black woman, replied, “What about black men? Black men, the presumption is guilty but white men the presumption of innocence.”
I don’t think that’s true but if you do think it’s true, make an appointment. Ask to have a conversation with the Senator about it rather than shouting at him in a hallway and demanding he apologize to your children for “ruining their futures.”
If the left is going to go all in on these confrontation tactics GOP representatives really have no choice but to be prepared to respond to them, not with shouting and theatrics but by calling them out for what they are. In this case, if you need to bring your kids to your protest that’s your choice but don’t demand they be the focus as a way to prevent someone from giving an adult answer.
Here’s the clip:

Correction: I’ve been informed this happened on Tuesday of this week not today. I’ve corrected it above.
