How far are people on the left willing to go to propagate their ideology?
Apparently, they’re willing to target children who may not agree with them. Last Tuesday, a teacher at Orrs Elementary School in Georgia humiliated one of her students because he decided to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance during class.
As 10-year-old Jason Newberry stood for the Pledge of Allegiance in his classroom — he recited the words with his hand over his heart. This is something that is done every day in schools all over the country. What happened next was appalling.
According to CBS46, Newberry stated that he and another classmate who stood for the pledge were bullied, and called names for their decision to stand. He said,
“Me and him got called KKK, Nazi, and we just kept getting bullied the whole day.”
Yes, that’s right, Newberry was bullied by other children because recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Apparently, Newberry had no idea why he was being called these names — he was unaware of the controversy involving NFL players who protested police brutality by kneeling for the national anthem. But, it gets worse.
Newberry said it wasn’t until his second period teacher showed them a news clip of NFL players kneeling that he realized the present controversy surrounding the flag.
The teacher then conducted a “poll” by passing around a piece of paper on which students could indicate whether or not they supported the NFL players’ protest. She also told her students that she would never stand for the Pledge of Allegiance — and if she did, she would not mean it.
The students who bullied Newberry and his classmate were not disciplined for their behavior. This has led parents to believe that the teacher condoned their behavior. A spokesperson for the Spalding School District stated that the poll was designed to be a lesson on the First Amendment. They did not indicate whether or not the teacher was disciplined for her comments about standing for the national anthem. But, it appears that someone may have spoken to her.
In a statement sent to parents, the teacher wrote,
“I apologize for expressing my views to my students. I recognize that while this was not a one-sided lesson, the topic itself and the expression of my views were not appropriate, my intentions were well-meaning.”
Lisa Newberry, the student’s mother was understandably angry at the school’s handling of this matter. They expressed their disgust over the bullying, but also over the teacher’s response to the incident. “These are our kids. We should be able to instill our values in them — not her.”
Other parents have indicated that they intend to stand with their children on Thursday morning as the national anthem is played over the loudspeaker at the school.
A teacher at Orrs Elementary School in Georgia humiliated one of her students because he decided to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance during class. Does the Left’s intolerance include bullying children?
Unfortunately, this is not the only example of a liberal teacher expressing their political views in the classroom. There have been several incidences where teachers have used their classroom as a platform to express their political views.
At another school in Georgia, a teacher excoriated students in her class for wearing shirts featuring President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. She was later fired for her behavior.
As parents, we cannot allow our public school systems to indoctrinate our children into their leftist ideology. The job of teachers is to teach, not propagandize. Teachers who attempt to foist their political views on our children should be vigorously opposed. If we allow them to get away with these types of actions, more teachers could follow. Let us not allow this to happen.
